Hvorfor denne varianten
Velg den hvis
Balances your priorities with a 1681€ price tag and a 39W idle draw.
Hva den ofrer
- Not specialized: it does not push any single dimension (value, silence, expansion) to the extreme.
Hvordan delene ble valgt
- AMD Ryzen 7 5700X: 8 cores / 16 threads covers the 8 cores needed with headroom.
- Motherboard AMD B550 (AM4): matches the CPU socket and case size.
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 — meets the 32GB the workload requires.
Hvorfor ikke de andre
- Smart build — best all-round beats "Performance build — maximum capability" on performance -25, efficiency +10, expandability +15, longevity -12 — that is why it is recommended for your priorities.

Check the balance
This build may struggle with the stated workload.
Kritisk
CPU close to the limit
The workload uses 100% of the CPU — little headroom for background tasks or growth.
Kritisk
RAM is nearly exhausted
The workload needs 100% of available RAM — swapping will hurt.

Fremtidsikkerhetsscore
Sterk fremtidsikkerhet85/100
Strong future-proofing (85/100) — this build should stay relevant for years without major surgery.
Upgrade path75
DIY build — the CPU, motherboard and PSU can each be upgraded independently without replacing the whole system.
Expansion100
Expansion headroom: 1 PCIe slot(s), 1 M.2, 58 SATA, 1 drive bay(s), 2 RAM slot(s) free.
Storage growth90
Storage is 100% utilized with 1 free drive bay(s) and 58 free SATA port(s).
Memory growth75
2 RAM slot(s) free; memory is 100% utilized.
Networking95
Networking is 10000 Mbps, and a free PCIe slot can add a faster NIC later.
Replacement ease90
ATX form factor with standard, socketed components — most parts are easy to replace.
Workload change70
No GPU, but there is room (1 PCIe slot(s), PSU headroom 8x) to add one for AI/transcoding.
Homelab Risk Score
Lav risiko10/100
Low risk (10/100) — sensible redundancy and headroom; no single point of failure is exposed.
low
Single point of failure
Storage has redundancy (parity1) — a single drive failure does not take the array down.Løsning: Continue a 3-2-1 backup strategy; redundancy is not a backup.
low
Storage risk
6 NAS-rated hard drive(s) — rated for 24/7 operation.Løsning: Keep drives cool and monitor SMART health.
low
Data loss risk
Redundancy protects against drive failure, though it is not a substitute for backups.Løsning: Follow a 3-2-1 backup rule: at least one copy off the box.
low
Power risk
PSU is 1000W, peak load 125W (13%).Løsning: PSU sizing leaves healthy headroom for spikes and future parts.
low
Network risk
Single 10000 Mbps NIC — a switch/port failure takes the box fully offline, and multi-user media can saturate 10000 Mbps.Løsning: Consider a second NIC or a managed switch; for heavy media, plan for 2.5/10G before the build.
low
Expansion risk
1 PCIe, 1 M.2, 58 SATA, 1 bays free.Løsning: Healthy room for future drives, NICs and accelerators.
low
Upgrade risk
2022 platform — current generation with a forward-looking socket/feature set.Løsning: Buy for the workload, not the socket — upgrade paths are a bonus, not a guarantee.

Check the balance
This build may struggle with the stated workload.Handling: Reconsider the config for the stated workload or budget before buying.balance
Kritisk
CPU close to the limit
The workload uses 100% of the CPU — little headroom for background tasks or growth.Handling: Consider a stronger CPU or drop a secondary workload.compute
Kritisk
RAM is nearly exhausted
The workload needs 100% of available RAM — swapping will hurt.Handling: Add more RAM now, while slots are still free.memory
Valgfritt
Add a UPS
An always-on server holding data should survive power blips.Handling: Add a line-interactive UPS sized for the build's peak draw (≥ 10 min at typical load for a clean shutdown).power
Valgfritt
Keep a backup off-box
Redundancy inside the box does not survive fire, theft or a whole-array fault.Handling: Mirror the important data to an external drive, a second box, or cloud.storage
Fremtid
RAM expansion available
2 RAM slot(s) free for a later upgrade.Handling: Leave them free until the workload actually grows.memory

Drive bays remain
1 drive bay(s) free for future capacity.Handling: Expand capacity in pairs (mirror/parity) when needed.storage

PCIe slot available
1 free PCIe slot(s) for a NIC, HBA or GPU later.Handling: Use it for a 10G NIC, extra HBA, or an accelerator when the need appears.expansion
Hva som blir grensen
RAM is tight is the most likely thing to date this build within 1-2y.
1-2y
RAM is tight
Hvorfor: Memory is 100% utilized — a growing workload will hit the ceiling quickly.Hva du skal gjøre: Add the remaining RAM before prices change, while slots are free.
1-2y
Storage nearly full
Hvorfor: 100% of raw capacity is already in use — media libraries and backups grow fast.Hva du skal gjøre: Expanding is easy: add a drive to the free bays/ports.
1-2y
CPU is the next bottleneck
Hvorfor: The CPU runs at 100% of capacity — new services or more users will hit the wall first.Hva du skal gjøre: Consider a stronger CPU within the same socket generation while it is still cheap.
Hva som begrenser deg først
RAM is the closest to its limit (100% of capacity in use) — it will likely force the next upgrade.
