Hvorfor denne varianten

Velg den hvis

Balances your priorities with a 950€ price tag and a 27W idle draw.

Hva den ofrer

Not specialized: it does not push any single dimension (value, silence, expansion) to the extreme.

Hvordan delene ble valgt

AMD Ryzen 5 5600GT: 6 cores / 12 threads covers the 4 cores needed with headroom.
Motherboard AMD B550 (AM4): matches the CPU socket and case size.
RAM: 16GB DDR4 — meets the 12GB the workload requires.

Hvorfor ikke de andre

Smart build — best all-round beats "Value build — most for your money" on performance +10, expandability +25, silence +23, longevity +10 — that is why it is recommended for your priorities.

Sterk fremtidsikkerhet

79/100

Strong future-proofing (79/100) — this build should stay relevant for years without major surgery.

Upgrade path75

DIY build — the CPU, motherboard and PSU can each be upgraded independently without replacing the whole system.

Expansion100

Expansion headroom: 2 PCIe slot(s), 2 M.2, 62 SATA, 0 drive bay(s), 2 RAM slot(s) free.

Storage growth90

Storage is 80% utilized with 0 free drive bay(s) and 62 free SATA port(s).

Memory growth75

2 RAM slot(s) free; memory is 75% utilized.

Networking55

Networking is 1000 Mbps, and a free PCIe slot can add a faster NIC later.

Replacement ease90

ATX form factor with standard, socketed components — most parts are easy to replace.

Workload change70

No GPU (the iGPU handles transcoding), but there is room (2 PCIe slot(s), PSU headroom 4.2x) to add one for AI.

Homelab Risk Score

Lav risiko

16/100

Low risk (16/100) — sensible redundancy and headroom; no single point of failure is exposed.

low

Single point of failure

Storage has redundancy (mirror) — a single drive failure does not take the array down.Løsning: Continue a 3-2-1 backup strategy; redundancy is not a backup.

medium

Storage risk

2 desktop hard drive(s) — not rated for 24/7 duty, vibration or heat; higher long-run failure risk.Løsning: For an always-on system, prefer NAS/CMR-rated drives; monitor SMART and replace before the warranty ends.

low

Data loss risk

Redundancy protects against drive failure, though it is not a substitute for backups.Løsning: Follow a 3-2-1 backup rule: at least one copy off the box.

low

Power risk

PSU is 400W, peak load 95W (24%).Løsning: PSU sizing leaves healthy headroom for spikes and future parts.

medium

Network risk

Single 1000 Mbps NIC — a switch/port failure takes the box fully offline, and multi-user media can saturate 1000 Mbps.Løsning: Consider a second NIC or a managed switch; for heavy media, plan for 2.5/10G before the build.

low

Expansion risk

2 PCIe, 2 M.2, 62 SATA, 0 bays free.Løsning: Healthy room for future drives, NICs and accelerators.

low

Upgrade risk

2024 platform — current generation with a forward-looking socket/feature set.Løsning: Buy for the workload, not the socket — upgrade paths are a bonus, not a guarantee.

Siste bygg-audit

Audit passed (0 critical, 0 warning) — mostly optional and future considerations remain.

2 Optimalisering2 Valgfritt2 Fremtid

Optimalisering

Use NAS-rated drives

Desktop drives in an always-on NAS/server role have higher long-run failure rates.Handling: Prefer NAS/CMR-rated drives for 24/7 duty.storage

Optimalisering

Plan faster networking

1G networking is fine today but will bottleneck multi-user media or big NAS transfers at 32TB.Handling: Budget for a 2.5G/10G NIC and switch later, or spec it now.network

Valgfritt

Add a UPS

An always-on server holding data should survive power blips.Handling: Add a line-interactive UPS sized for the build's peak draw (≥ 10 min at typical load for a clean shutdown).power

Valgfritt

Keep a backup off-box

Redundancy inside the box does not survive fire, theft or a whole-array fault.Handling: Mirror the important data to an external drive, a second box, or cloud.storage

Fremtid

RAM expansion available

2 RAM slot(s) free for a later upgrade.Handling: Leave them free until the workload actually grows.memory

Fremtid

PCIe slot available

2 free PCIe slot(s) for a NIC, HBA or GPU later.Handling: Use it for a 10G NIC, extra HBA, or an accelerator when the need appears.expansion

Hva som blir grensen

Storage nearly full is the most likely thing to date this build within 1-2y.

1-2y

Storage nearly full

Hvorfor: 80% of raw capacity is already in use — media libraries and backups grow fast.Hva du skal gjøre: Expanding is easy: add a drive to the free bays/ports.

3-5y

1G networking becomes the ceiling

Hvorfor: A 1000 Mbps link will cap NAS transfers and multi-user media before the CPU or disks do.Hva du skal gjøre: Add a 2.5G/10G NIC when the switch investment makes sense.
