Waarom deze variant
Kies deze als
Balances your priorities with a 1677€ price tag and a 37W idle draw.
Wat het opoffert
- Not specialized: it does not push any single dimension (value, silence, expansion) to the extreme.
Hoe de onderdelen zijn gekozen
- AMD Ryzen 5 5500: 6 cores / 12 threads covers the 6 cores needed with headroom.
- Motherboard AMD B550 (AM4): matches the CPU socket and case size.
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 — meets the 24GB the workload requires.
Waarom niet de andere
- Smart build — best all-round beats "Performance build — maximum capability" on performance -30, value +8, efficiency +9, expandability +17, longevity -16 — that is why it is recommended for your priorities.

Toekomstbestendigheidsscore
Sterke toekomstbestendigheid79/100
Strong future-proofing (79/100) — this build should stay relevant for years without major surgery.
Upgrade path75
DIY build — the CPU, motherboard and PSU can each be upgraded independently without replacing the whole system.
Expansion100
Expansion headroom: 1 PCIe slot(s), 2 M.2, 62 SATA, 0 drive bay(s), 2 RAM slot(s) free.
Storage growth90
Storage is 91% utilized with 0 free drive bay(s) and 62 free SATA port(s).
Memory growth75
2 RAM slot(s) free; memory is 75% utilized.
Networking80
Networking is 2500 Mbps, and a free PCIe slot can add a faster NIC later.
Replacement ease65
EATX form factor with standard, socketed components — most parts are easy to replace.
Workload change70
No GPU, but there is room (1 PCIe slot(s), PSU headroom 7.5x) to add one for AI/transcoding.
Homelab Risk Score
Laag risico10/100
Low risk (10/100) — sensible redundancy and headroom; no single point of failure is exposed.
low
Single point of failure
Storage has redundancy (mirror) — a single drive failure does not take the array down.Oplossing: Continue a 3-2-1 backup strategy; redundancy is not a backup.
low
Storage risk
2 NAS-rated hard drive(s) — rated for 24/7 operation.Oplossing: Keep drives cool and monitor SMART health.
low
Data loss risk
Redundancy protects against drive failure, though it is not a substitute for backups.Oplossing: Follow a 3-2-1 backup rule: at least one copy off the box.
low
Power risk
PSU is 750W, peak load 100W (13%).Oplossing: PSU sizing leaves healthy headroom for spikes and future parts.
low
Network risk
Single 2500 Mbps NIC — a switch/port failure takes the box fully offline, and multi-user media can saturate 2500 Mbps.Oplossing: Consider a second NIC or a managed switch; for heavy media, plan for 2.5/10G before the build.
low
Expansion risk
1 PCIe, 2 M.2, 62 SATA, 0 bays free.Oplossing: Healthy room for future drives, NICs and accelerators.
low
Upgrade risk
2022 platform — current generation with a forward-looking socket/feature set.Oplossing: Buy for the workload, not the socket — upgrade paths are a bonus, not a guarantee.

Add a UPS
An always-on server holding data should survive power blips.Actie: Add a line-interactive UPS sized for the build's peak draw (≥ 10 min at typical load for a clean shutdown).power

Wat de limiet wordt
Storage nearly full is the most likely thing to date this build within 1-2y.
1-2y
Storage nearly full
Waarom: 91% of raw capacity is already in use — media libraries and backups grow fast.Wat te doen: Expanding is easy: add a drive to the free bays/ports.
1-2y
CPU is the next bottleneck
Waarom: The CPU runs at 100% of capacity — new services or more users will hit the wall first.Wat te doen: Consider a stronger CPU within the same socket generation while it is still cheap.
Wat je als eerste beperkt
CPU is the closest to its limit (100% of capacity in use) — it will likely force the next upgrade.
