Hvorfor denne variant

Vælg den, hvis

Balances your priorities with a 2870€ price tag and a 55W idle draw.

Hvad den ofrer

Not specialized: it does not push any single dimension (value, silence, expansion) to the extreme.

Hvordan delene blev valgt

Intel® Core™ i7 Desktop Processor 14700F 20 Cores (8 P-cores and 12 E-cores) up to 5.4 GHz: 20 cores / 28 threads covers the 15 cores needed with headroom.
Motherboard Intel B760 (LGA 1700): matches the CPU socket and case size.
RAM: 64GB DDR5,DDR4 — meets the 48GB the workload requires.

Hvorfor ikke de andre

Smart build — best all-round beats "Value build — most for your money" on performance -5, efficiency +9, expandability +28, silence +23 — that is why it is recommended for your priorities.

Fremtidssikkerhedsscore

Stærk fremtidssikkerhed

82/100

Strong future-proofing (82/100) — this build should stay relevant for years without major surgery.

Upgrade path75

DIY build — the CPU, motherboard and PSU can each be upgraded independently without replacing the whole system.

Expansion100

Expansion headroom: 2 PCIe slot(s), 6 M.2, 2 SATA, 0 drive bay(s), 2 RAM slot(s) free.

Storage growth70

Storage is 86% utilized with 0 free drive bay(s) and 2 free SATA port(s).

Memory growth75

2 RAM slot(s) free; memory is 75% utilized.

Networking80

Networking is 2500 Mbps, and a free PCIe slot can add a faster NIC later.

Replacement ease90

ATX form factor with standard, socketed components — most parts are easy to replace.

Workload change85

A 16GB GPU is present — AI and transcoding workloads are covered.

Homelab Risk Score

Lav risiko

13/100

Low risk (13/100) — sensible redundancy and headroom; no single point of failure is exposed.

low

Single point of failure

Storage has redundancy (mirror) — a single drive failure does not take the array down.Løsning: Continue a 3-2-1 backup strategy; redundancy is not a backup.

medium

Storage risk

2 desktop hard drive(s) — not rated for 24/7 duty, vibration or heat; higher long-run failure risk.Løsning: For an always-on system, prefer NAS/CMR-rated drives; monitor SMART and replace before the warranty ends.

low

Data loss risk

Redundancy protects against drive failure, though it is not a substitute for backups.Løsning: Follow a 3-2-1 backup rule: at least one copy off the box.

low

Power risk

PSU is 500W, peak load 294W (59%).Løsning: PSU sizing leaves healthy headroom for spikes and future parts.

low

Network risk

Single 2500 Mbps NIC — a switch/port failure takes the box fully offline, and multi-user media can saturate 2500 Mbps.Løsning: Consider a second NIC or a managed switch; for heavy media, plan for 2.5/10G before the build.

low

Expansion risk

2 PCIe, 6 M.2, 2 SATA, 0 bays free.Løsning: Healthy room for future drives, NICs and accelerators.

low

Upgrade risk

2024 platform — current generation with a forward-looking socket/feature set.Løsning: Buy for the workload, not the socket — upgrade paths are a bonus, not a guarantee.

Endelig build-audit

Audit passed (0 critical, 0 warning) — mostly optional and future considerations remain.

Optimering

Use NAS-rated drives

Desktop drives in an always-on NAS/server role have higher long-run failure rates.Handling: Prefer NAS/CMR-rated drives for 24/7 duty.storage

Valgfrit

Add a UPS

An always-on server holding data should survive power blips.Handling: Add a line-interactive UPS sized for the build's peak draw (≥ 10 min at typical load for a clean shutdown).power

Valgfrit

Keep a backup off-box

Redundancy inside the box does not survive fire, theft or a whole-array fault.Handling: Mirror the important data to an external drive, a second box, or cloud.storage

Fremtid

RAM expansion available

2 RAM slot(s) free for a later upgrade.Handling: Leave them free until the workload actually grows.memory

Fremtid

PCIe slot available

2 free PCIe slot(s) for a NIC, HBA or GPU later.Handling: Use it for a 10G NIC, extra HBA, or an accelerator when the need appears.expansion

Hvad bliver grænsen

Storage nearly full is the most likely thing to date this build within 1-2y.

1-2y

Storage nearly full

Hvorfor: 86% of raw capacity is already in use — media libraries and backups grow fast.Hvad du skal gøre: Expanding is easy: add a drive to the free bays/ports.
